Queensland

Beautiful one day, perfect the next.

Queensland’s long-running slogan doesn’t appear on TV commercials any more but it’s still an apt description of Australia’s second largest state.

The stunning tropical north and the Great Barrier Reef dominate the tourist brochures – and with good reason, the reef is 3000km long and is home to the world’s largest collection of coral and more than 1500 species of tropical fish – but the rest of Queensland shouldn’t be undersold.

Close to the NSW border the mountains and plateaus known as the “scenic rim” are home to lush rainforests – and great bushwalking – and the unique beauty of  World Heritage-listed Fraser Island is found 200km north of Brisbane.
